History – Explore the Unesco world heritage sites of Skara Brae, Maes Howe, Ring of Brodgar and Standing Stones of Stenness.  Viking age in Orkney is told around a number of sites, including St Magnus Kirk near the Brough of Birsay, St Magnus Cathedral, Earls Bu to name a few. Our wartime history is fascinating and you can learn more from the Scapa Flow visitor centre, Italian Chapel, Ness Battery and HMS Tern.  We also have fantastic museums which provides you with further information on Orkney’s heritage spanning thousands of years.

Wildlife – Orkney has an immense variety of wildlife and it does not matter what time of year you visit Orkney you will encounter many species, including birds of prey, puffins, seals, otters and dolphins.

Arts, Craft & Design – There are a large number of creative businesses in Orkney from jewellery, pottery, woodwork, textiles, artwork and photography.  There is an arts and craft trail which is signposted on our local roads.
